VICTORY at Roseville Junction City Silver Cup
Castro Valley United Yellow Under 16 girls
Final game decided in penalty shoot-out..
Online starts NOW, Classroom sessions start July 29th, 2016
Castro Valley Soccer Club is sponsoring another 2016 referee class.
Refereeing is a great way to become familiar with soccer, an excellent way for our youth to earn money, and a perfect way for all of us to stay active. The Referee "Grade 8" license is the standard first referee level in the United States. Having earned that license, people can referee games in Castro Valley and everywhere else in the US. We pay our referees, as do most clubs.
Our clinic is a course of online training by each student at home followed by 13 hours of classroom and field training. The online training includes several tests on the Laws of the Game. Attendance at all the classroom sessions and the field session is required. The instructor goes through the Laws of the Game explaining the rules and providing practical knowledge and “how to” experience. Each student should bring a note pad and writing instruments to all classroom sessions. And at the last session, badges will be issued. (Must be at least 12 years old by Aug. 1st 2016 to take this course.)
A NON-REFUNDABLE $10 check ($15 non-CVSC members) reserves your position in the class. CVSC will pay the other costs of the class. Prior to receiving the referee badge, each person will also need to pay the standard USSF registration fee of $45.
After getting their licenses, referees are responsible for purchasing their own uniforms and equipment. We will let you know what you need and help you get a discount on it.
The classroom and field sessions are as follows: (Must attend ALL sessions)
Classroom sessions held at CVSC office and Sunday Field session at Canyon Middle School, CV.
CVSC office - 3585 Castro Valley Boulevard, Castro Valley, CA 94546 [map]

If you are interested, please mail a check for $10 to CVSC, 3585 Castro Valley Blvd. Castro Valley, CA 94546. There are a limited number of positions, so it’ll be on a first come, first served basis. And if you have questions, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org

Suhani Abdullah: USYSA Area 4 Female Youth Referee of the Year!
Castro Valley Soccer Club is proud to announce that Suhani Abdullah has been honored as the USYSA Area 4 Female Youth Referee of the Year. Area 4 is comprised of the 13 western states and Suhani is #1 in our part of the world!
Suhani began playing soccer at age 8 and began refereeing in 2011 at age 14. Starting on the touchlines as an Assistant Referee, she was promoted to Center Referee her first year. Early on, she demonstrated by her calls, confidence and grace on the pitch, a talent for refereeing we have all admired. As she was assigned matches of increasing competitiveness with older youth, she began to draw the attention of referee assignors around the area. In 2015, she received the Female Youth Referee of the Year for CYSA Region 4 of Northern California, and earlier this year, was honored as Female Youth Referee of California. Throughout this time, Suhani has been a wonderful mentor and friend to many younger and newer youth referees--part of the referee ethos, "to help others as I have been helped."
As her abilities have developed and become known, she has been invited to referee in soccer tournaments throughout the west, including in Alaska, Idaho, Colorado, Arizona and southern California. And she has attracted the attention of those who train referees for the higher level assignments. Not to mention that she has already earned a grade 7 referee license.
Suhani is currently a sophomore at UC Berkeley reading Economics and Math. She looks forward to becoming a grade 6 referee in 2017, and in the meantime, increase her skills on the pitch.
And, what's it like to referee? Quoting Suhani, "...refereeing has been the absolute best job I could ask for. I get to work in a high-pressure environment that changes every single game, which is really exciting and fun for me. I've also met some of the coolest people and made some fantastic friends along the way, from Castro Valley all to way to..." [Editor left the last place word out, because Suhani hasn't stopped meeting cool new people in cool new places.]
Suhani---Congratulations from all your friends, your fellow referees and everyone at CVSC. Well done!
