Coached by Jerry Losson, the U10 Girls Castro Valley United team brought home the Championship Trophy from the 39th Annual Juventus Torneo Dei Campioni over the weekend held in Redwood City. The team posted a 5-0-0 record over the three day event and only allowed two goals while scoring 11. Claire Wong scored twice against the home squad from Juventus with assists from Melissa Bellamacina and G’ana Losson to help post a2-0 win. In the their second match on Friday, the United girls defeated San Ramon 3-1. The girls had a great display of teamwork on their first goal as they completed 5 passes, switching the point of attack twice before Kassidy Mitchell found Breanna Herrera alone at the top of the penalty area for the shot to the back of the net. Alyssa Vigallon and Losson finished off the scoring while Jocelyn Gerardo and Olivia Brackin were solid defensively.
Saturday morning matched the Palo Alto Thunder against CVUnited and the girls beat a very good team from across the bay with Hannah Meskienyar scoring a nice goal on an assist by Bellamacina and Vigallon netting the game winner. Gerardo, Mikayla Calvo, Herrera, Brackin and Bellamacina were outstanding in the game as they thwarted attacks and started their own assaults at the Palo Alto defense. In the final game of the afternoon Saturday, Vigallon went on a tear scoring a second half hat trick to lead the team to a 3-0 victory over a determined Livermore Elite team. Brackin and Calvo were again instrumental in posting the shutout.
The Sunday morning final paired CV UNited against Palo Alto again.The girls came away with the championship on a second half goal by Vigallon as they bunkered in and held the Palo Alto girls to very few chances at goal while continuing to create chances of their own in front of the Thunder net. Gerardo, Herrera, Calvo, Bellamacina,Brackin, Mitchell,Wong, Losson, Vigallon and Meskienyar were all instrumental in bringing the Glass Ball to Castro Valley Uniteds trophy case.
