Grade 8 Referee Course Information

The Grade 8 Referee Clinic is an 18 hour course usually taught in six (6), three (3) hour sessions. There are five classroom lessons and the last session is a written exam.  Attendance at four of the five classroom lessons is mandatory before qualifying to take the written exam.  If you must miss a session, you may be able to make arrangements with another instructor at another club/league to makeup the missed session and take their written exam because each of the five lesson plans are taught EXACTLY THE SAME.
The instructor goes through the Laws of the Game explaining the rules and providing practical knowledge and “how to” experience.  Each student should bring a note pad and writing instruments to all classroom sessions.
The sixth session is the exam.  The exam is a 100 question multiple choice test.  Students need to obtain a 75% or better score to pass the test.  Students that fail the exam may be able to arrange a make-up exam only ONE TIME AFTER ONE MONTH at another club/league’s clinic upon approval of CVSC’s Referee Director. If unsuccessful the second time, the ENTIRE five classroom lessons MUST be retaken.
Students receive a copy of the “Laws of the Game” and the “Guide to Procedures” books. The instructor refers to these books during the classroom sessions so the students should bring them to all those sessions.
A NON-REFUNDABLE $10 check ($15 non-CVSC members) reserves your seat to the clinic and covers instructors cost and books. Students are responsible for the cost their USSF registration. For 2009, the Grade 8 registration fee is $40. At the start of the course, each student must provide a check made out to CVSC for the amount of the USSF registration fee. These checks will be taken by the instructor at the end of the course to cover your registration fee.  Only students passing the exam pay the registration fee.  Checks will be returned for any student who does not pass the exam.  See the 2009 Referee Fee Change document for more information about the 2009 registration fee changes.
Students are responsible for purchasing their own uniforms and equipment.  See the uniforms page for more information.  A handout will be provided during the course that lists some sources for referee uniforms and equipment and how to be assigned to games.
CVSC is offering several Grade 8 Referee Courses for 2009.  Use the link below to find the dates and locations for the course sessions.  Additional referee courses can be found on the District IV Referee web site under the Instruction tab or directly from the referee pages for other clubs in the area.  If there is enough demand, we will attempt to add additional courses.
