Rules of Play for 5 v 5 Turf Shootout:

  • U8-U12 (2010-2006 birth-year). Playing format is 5 v 5 (4 and Goalie).
  • Games will be two 20-minute halves with 5-minute break. Please make sure that your team is ready to play at the scheduled time and clears the field immediately after the end of the game. Games are run on a tight centralized schedule.
  • Custom built small sided fields.
  • Single Day event. Games will be scheduled on a Saturday for Boys, Sunday for Girls - each team needs to play all games scheduled in the day. Each team will have at least three (3) games.
  • All teams will need player passes (mandatory) and a printed roster to play.
  • When the ball goes out of bounds, it will be restarted with a kick in (no throw ins), corner kick or goal kick, depending on where it went out of bounds and who touched it last. These will be in-direct. Kickoffs are also in-direct.
  • Goal kicks can be taken from anywhere inside penalty arc and must be kicked outside the penalty arc before they can be touched by another player.
  • No punting or drop kicks from goalie allowed (ball must be either rolled in, thrown in, or placed on the ground for a kick in).
  • Substitutions are to be made “on the fly”. The player coming off must be running towards the sidelines before the sub can run on
  • No offside enforced.
  • All fouls committed outside the penalty box will be in-direct kicks. Defending team must be at least 5 yds from the ball. All fouls committed in the attacking penalty box by the defending team will be penalty kicks, except for balls passed back and picked up by the keeper. These will be indirect from the nearest spot on the penalty arc
  • Scoring Rules   3 points, for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points loss.  1 point for each goal up to 3, 1 point for a clean sheet.
  • In the group play, ties will stand. In the playoffs, there will be a 5 minute golden goal period, followed by FIFA penalty kicks, with 3 kicks instead of 5.
  • In case of a tie in group play, to determine winner/advancement, will be based on

    4. Coin toss
  • Each division may have a different format to determine the 1st place winner (e.g. play-offs or round robin group play), depending on the number of teams in the bracket
  • Awards for 1st, participation pins for all
  • Any controversy, interpretation of the rules or disciplinary action shall be ruled upon by the Tournament Director
