Do you have questions regarding CVSC’s Competitive Program?  Stop by our Competitive Program information night on Thursday, February 2 at the CVSC offices at 20212 Redwood Road, Suite 201 in Castro Valley beginning at 7:00PM.  You’ll get a chance to meet the CVSC Director of Coach and Player, Development, Competitive Program Director as well as some of the competitive coaches for the upcoming season.

Everyone recognizes that reaching the State Cup Final 8 in a 64 team or higher Division is among the highest accomplishments in NorCal State Cup competition.  The great percentage of teams playing in NorCal are definitely among the top 10% quality teams in their age group in Northern California and the winner of a State Championship will often be that proverbial 1 out of a 1000 team!

On Friday, January 13, the San Jose Earthquakes and Wells Fargo traveled to Five Canyons Park and presented Castro Valley Soccer Club a $2,000 check on behalf of the Wells Fargo Goals For Education Program. The grant will be used to help purchase new goals for CVSC after vandals caused $10,000 worth of damage to their equipment last year.

While players of the youth soccer club and the TOPS (soccer players with special needs) program looked on, representatives from Wells Fargo, CVSS and the San Jose Earthquakes spoke about the importance of youth soccer. Earthquakes midfielder Anthony Ampaipitakwong closed the ceremony by presenting the check to CVSC and joining the kids in a scrimmage. Afterwards, Ampaipitakwong signed autographs for all the kids and gave them a Wells Fargo gift bag that included a soccer ball.

This was the second Wells Fargo Goals For Education check presentation the Earthquakes and Wells Fargo had completed this week. On Wednesday, January 11, the Quakes joined Wells Fargo at Bret Harte Elementary School in San Francisco to issue America SCORES a $1,500 check for their after-school soccer/poetry program. In total, the Wells Fargo Goals For Education program will issue 16 grants totalling $10,000 to local youth soccer and athletic development programs this year.

In the Olympic Development Program (ODP), girls and boys from around the country are selected to participate in District, State, Region and National level tryouts to compete for spots on the various teams at each respective level. It is a rigorous, but rewarding process that tests players, beginning at age 12, to compete against the best players in their District, State, Region and the Nation.

Four CVSC U14 players, Jordyn Cunningham, Madison McNamara, Zach Connolly and Diego Ojeda, made the State ODP Team this year in their first year of eligibility (1998 Birth Year) and went on to ODP Regional Camp to compete for a spot on the ODP Region IV team.  This was a very big accomplishment and honor for these four players and CVSC. They represented their teams and the Castro Valley Soccer Club very well and we are very proud of them.  

We asked each of the players to write about their ODP journey, from initial tryouts all the way through Regional camp.

The U14 Castro Valley Girls’ soccer team has taken quite a unique path on its journey to compete with the best teams in Northern California and beyond.

While in existence since U9, the team has gone through a metamorphosis in the past 5 years into something that is almost unrecognizable today.
