Player Evaluation

New players will be assessed based on their performance during the placement days.

Returning Castro Valley players will be evaluated based on:

If a player is sick or injured during tryouts, an assessment may be offered during the first week of practice in July. However, roster spots cannot be guaranteed at that time.

Team Structure

Our goal is to create three teams per age group where numbers and player ability allow.

U9–U10 & U11–U12 Teams:

Green – 1st Team

Yellow – 2nd Team

White – 3rd Team

U7–U8 PROGRAM

Players in the U7–U8 age group participate in our Development Program, which does not divide players into tiers.

However, we will form U8 Green “play up” teams for both boys and girls. If quality numbers allow this year, we will also form U8 Yellow teams.

These teams will play up in a U9 NorCal 7v7 league. Selection for these teams is by invitation only.

What to Expect at Tryouts

Tryouts are designed to be a fun but structured player assessment.

Players will:
• Play 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 games
• Participate in small-sided matches/scrimmages
• Meet the CVSC coaching staff
• Receive a tryout number upon arrival (the same number will be used for both sessions)

Coaches will observe players during game situations to evaluate their abilities.

The goal is to place players in the best possible team and developmental environment.

SELECTION PROCESS

After both placement sessions are completed, the professional coaching staff will review their notes and compile recommended rosters.

A club official will then contact families to:
• Offer a roster spot on a Castro Valley competitive team.
• Recommend participation in the Recreation program.

In rare cases, an age group may not have enough players to form a team. Castro Valley Soccer Club will do its best to inform families as early as possible if this occurs.

Communication Timeline

Green Team offers will be communicated via phone within 24 hours of the final tryout (typically via a phone call or text from the head coach). Our goal is to have contacted every player who attended within 72 hours after the final tryout for that age group.

Families will then have 24 hours to:
• Accept the offer
• Complete registration
• Submit the non-refundable registration fee (full payment or first installment)

If registration is not completed within this window, the offer may be rescinded.

Teams will be formed in the following order:
Green
Yellow
White

Please ensure your contact details during registration are accurate to avoid delays in communication.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Families should discuss their decision to join the Castro Valley competitive program before tryouts begin and ask any questions ahead of time.

When contacted with an offer, families should be prepared to make a decision quickly in order to help us form teams efficiently and avoid delaying offers to other players and families.

Players not offered a place on a competitive team are encouraged to register for our Recreation Soccer Program.

What Players Should Bring

Players should arrive prepared with the following:

Clothing and Gear:
• Soccer shirt and shorts
• Soccer socks
• Shin guards
• Turf shoes or soccer cleats

Other Items:
• Water bottle

Important: Current CVSC players should not wear their team uniforms to tryouts.
